OUR STORY

Eight years ago I was spending my days buying 6 million pair of boys underwear in the corporate fashion world and thought that there had to be a better use of my time.  I had dabbled in screen printing and a bit of sewing, and somehow decided I was qualified to start a factory of my own.  I quit my corporate job, bought three second hand Juki machines, moved into a cold second story warehouse in Detroit and started figuring it all out.  I watched a lot of YouTube videos and eventually made a t-shirt with my own two hands.  It was crude.  It fit like a cheap Halloween costume, but it was a t-shirt.

I started hand-cutting and sewing a new tee every single day for about two months until I eventually made one that didn't look completely homemade.  I had the right machines, but couldn't figure out how to operate them to make something that was even close to as good as the cheap tees you can buy in a store.

I started to build a team of Detroiter's around me that could help perfect our patterns and stitching.  We slowly figured out the t-shirt and eventually added new styles like crewnecks, hoodies, and pants.  We took any sewing work we could find just to keep the lights on, all the while perfecting our craft.  We made some weird stuff in those early days.  No regrets, everything moved us closer to where we are today.  We made every mistake in the book on both the sewing and the business side, but we learned so much along the way.

Flash forward to today, now eight years into this adventure, and we have an incredible team of people that care deeply about the craft and a factory that produces garments sold worldwide for some of the best brands on the market.  The Soft Goods brand has been slowly and steadily building a name for itself in Japan and Korea, by the quality of our product alone, however in 2025 we will relaunch as a staple menswear brand in the American market.  Our process is refined, we have a team of all-stars, and our product is better than ever before.
